Born in Staincross, Barnsley on 29th November 1923, Norman Rimmington started his career as a goalkeeper with local club Mapplewell Town before joining Barnsley in February 1945. He broke into the Barnsley team in the 1946-47 season, making twenty-seven appearances before joining Hartlepool United in December 1947, he stayed there five years making one hundred and twenty-four League appearances before returning to South Yorkshire with Non-League Denaby United where he finished his football career. He returned to his local club, Barnsley and became a legend as he coached and took on the roles of Physio and kitman at Oakwell and was known as Mr Barnsley.
